Judith A. Sevcik was a warm hearted and well loved individual. She was a loving and generous person, someone who always made sure that those around her were happy and taken care of. Judy found it easy to show sympathy and always went out of her way for others. These qualities became a part of Judy's personality throughout her lifetime.
Judy was born at Saint Ann's in Chicago, Illinois on April 20, 1944. She was the daughter of Gordon and Marie Miller. Judy was raised in Chicago, along with her younger sister, Susan. Judy attended Saint Philomena Grammar School through 8th Grade. Then, she went on to graduate from Saint Philomena Commercial School. Judy enjoyed school, especially the social aspect of it. There were many times when her sister, Sue, had to stay after school because Judy and her friends got in trouble for talking. The nuns always felt badly for Sue, so they always gave her fruit or candy while she waited for Judy. It was during her grammar school years that Judy met her lifelong friend, Maureen (Bjorgo). Growing up, Judy loved playing games, listening to music (especially Johnny Mathis) and going to the roller rink. Typing was her favorite school subject.
After graduating from Saint Philomena Commercial School, Judy went on to work at Pioneer bank, and that is where she met Al. Judy and Al were married at Saint Philomena Church on April 24, 1965 and shared 46 years of happiness together. They bought their first home in Des Plaines, Illinois (1441 Cora), where they lived for 21 years. Judy's mom and dad lived in the upstairs apartment and her sister lived in the back house. Julie's birthday parties there were always looked forward to, as were Judy's garage sales...the highlights of the summer. Judy and Al later moved to 285 S. Marshall Dr., in Des Plaines, where Al still resides. Their favorite song to sing and dance to was "Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers.
On July 20, 1971 Judy and Al were blessed with a beautiful baby girl named Julie. She weighed 6 pounds 6 ounces and was 20 inches long. She was Judy and Al's pride and joy. When she was young, Julie loved going grocery shopping with her dad. As she got older, Julie enjoyed all kinds of shopping with her mom. Judy often referred to Julie as the "bag lady" due to her buying and returning all the time. Judy and Al were later fortunate to welcome Don Willett, their son-in-law, to the family. Several years later, they were blessed once again with two wonderful grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew. The love they felt for them was like no other. Judy never missed a baseball game, a tennis lesson, a basketball game, a band concert, a school function or anything else that involved the boys. She was their biggest fan. She supported the Cubs for Matt and the White Sox for Andrew.
While Julie was growing up, Judy was a stay at home mom until Julie went to high school. She began working in the cafeteria at Algonquin Middle School on a part-time basis to buy a dining room set for her house and extras for Julie. She wound up staying there for 22 1/2 years. She made many lasting friendships with the teachers and her co-workers while she worked at Algonquin. Lynn, Vanessa, Peggy, Pat, Rosalyn, Gayle, Tina, Rob and the other custodians made work fun and enjoyable. Her favorite part of working at Algonquin was being able to serve lunch to her grandson, Matt. He loved seeing her just as much. Andrew was looking forward to sharing that experience too.
Judy enjoyed going on vacations, She enjoyed planning and organizing what to bring, where to go and what to see. Favorite vacations included Florida, (Pigeon Forge) Tennessee, (Branson) Missouri and Cross Lake, but her absolute favorites were her vacations to Florida and Colorado with Al, Julie, Don, Matt and Andrew.
Judy was a dog lover and cherished her pets. She loved all three of her dogs: Tasha (Siberian Husky), Nadia (Samoyed) and Maddie (Siberian Husky). She loved Mush (Siberian Husky) too, Don and Julie's first dog.
There was one thing that all of Judy's friends and loved ones knew and will always remember, and that is that she was a loyal and caring friend. When Judy made friends, she made true and lasting friendships. While growing up, some of her best friends were her sister, Sue Koziol (her cousin and forever best friend), her mother's foster sisters (Nonie, Jeanie, Lulu and Bonnie), Maureen Bjorgo (from 1st grade), Peggy Bannon and Barbara W. Later in life, while working at the bank, she became close friends with Carol, Della, Delores and Marilyn. Judy and her sister, Sue, had a monthly card club with them. Elaine Hodges, Martha Sutalo and Joanie McNamara were very special to her as well.
Judy was the social director of the family. She was the hostess for holidays, the organizer for get togethers, the thoughtful shopper, the family picture taker and the source of information for just about anything.
Judy was admitted into Alexian Brothers Hospital on May 7, 2011. While she was being treated for double pneumonia, other complications arose. She was so strong in her months of sickness. She was a real fighter. She beat the odds, got stronger and was called a success story by one of her doctors. She was determined to get out of rehab to be Elizabeth's godmother, see Matt and Andrew play baseball and go home to her loved ones. She pushed herself to walk and get stronger, as hard as it was for her. She went through so much to get better, and then, without any warning, she was taken away from all who loved her.
Judy passed away of natural causes on September 8, 2011 in her home. She is survived by her husband, Al; her daughter, Julie (Don); her mother, Marie Miller/Delaney; her sister, Sue; her grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew; her niece, Ann Lindstrom (Aaron); her godchild, Elizabeth. Services for Judy were held at Saint Mary's Church. Judy was laid to rest in All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
Everyone whose life she touched will miss her. She will always remain in the hearts and memories of those she loved. xoxo
