Mrs. Masterton was a very special person. She was kind and sweet. She knew both of my children at St Raymonds school. They absolutely adored her. I enjoyed talking to her every time I saw her. Dear Masterton Family,
I'll never forget the first time I met Karen, we were greeting our kindergartners Mike and Alli as they got off the bus.  She helped calm my nerves!  She was one of two people that had a major impact in Patrick's life, as his second grade teacher, she gave him confidence.  Being the humble person she was she probably didn't even realize the incredible positive impact she had.  She was so kind, I loved doing the "ducks" with her.  She had such an amazing, comforting manner.  We are so sorry for your loss.

    Karen was a wonderful friend for many years.  She will be missed.  My last conversation with her in February was upbeat and positive as usual.  It is hard to believe she is gone.  My condolences to her husband and sons.

Mrs. Masterton was my 2nd grade teacher and to this day is still one of my favorite teachers ever. She really cared about everyone around her and created an extremely positive atmosphere in the classroom. In recent years, she would go out of her way to say hello to me and ask about how things were with me. She was so sincere and will definitely not be forgotten. You're in my thoughts and prayers!

I was so lucky to be in town and drinking coffee with Karen 5 days before she died.  I knew it was a very special visit.  When dealing with challenging events, the conversation gets very real, very quickly.  We talked about jobs, and husbands, children, the future, God and love.  She told me how lucky she felt to be married to Brian who is a pillar of strength for so many people.  She talked about each of her sons and how proud she was of them and their faith, and dedication to living good, honest, God-serving lives.  We talked about teaching and how much she loved it.  And how fun it was to joke around with the kids and let each one know that they were special.  That is what Karen did.  You couldn't leave a conversation with her without feeling like she loved you, and she heard you, and she was happy to spend time with you.  Thank you for all you brought to the people in your life.  Thank you for you kindness.  Your warmth. Your smile.  Your sense of humor.  And most of all, thank you for your unwavering faith in God.  You inspire me.

Karen was a great teacher and a fantastic person.  She had such a warm smile and a great sense of humor.  She had a positive impact on thousands of lives through her teaching and in raising some very exceptional young men.  Her legacy will live on through her former students and her boys.            As the wonderful 2nd grade teacher to my children Dan and Jenny, I felt blessed that Karen played such a special role in their lives. Personally, I felt blessed to call her friend. She was a kind,loving and ever supportive friend. Whenever we got together there was always catching up on the joys of her life....her boys. You made her so proud! May knowing how much she loved you,and how much she was loved by others bring you comfort.

Karen was a wonderful teacher and mother and our family was blessed to know her and your family while the children grew up at St. James.  Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this sad time.

Never will I forget the positive impact Karen has made on my family.  Both of my older children were fortunate to have learned from her in 2nd Grade at St James. However, it is my youngest, Angela, who was the luckiest. Karen has been her tutor every week for the last 1 1/2 years.  Yesterday Angela came home with her report card and a Merit Roll certificate.  She was so proud but sad that she could not show it to Karen. I told her, " she can already see it". Thank you Brian, Tim, Dan and Michael for sharing this precious gem with all of us. She will remain a strong influence on our family forever.
