

KayKathryn P. McDermottOf Arlington HeightsKathryn ("Kay") McDermott was born July 7, 1921 in Chicago to Joe and Mary (nee Kelly) Power. She died peacefully March 25, 2017.Kay is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert ("Bob"), whom she married October 2, 1954. She and Bob had five children: Tom (Mary Kay Stepanik)McDermott, Mary Kay (Duane Sigelko) McDermott, Neal (Charlie Waters) McDermott, Sean (Barb Supple) McDermott and Juliann (John Alterini) McDermottand nine grandchildren Erin, Zachary, Clare, Xavier, Connor, Kevin, Maggie, Rory and Johanna. She was loved by her nieces and nephews who fondly called her "Aunt Sis."Kay is predeceased by her brothers Joseph and Edmond Power, and sisters Marge McGurn and Therese Paynter. She is survived by her siblings John, Joan, and GeraldPower.A daughter of Irish immigrants, Kay was born and raised in Englewood. In 1954 she and Bob began their life together in Arlington Heights, where they celebrated 61 years of joyful marriage. Her interests in painting, art appreciation, and homemaking helped create a welcoming home, open to all. Prior to starting her family, she was proud to serve as an executive-legal secretary to Cook County State"s Attorney, Hon. John Boyle. In 1985, Bob and Kay received the Bishop Heffron Award for service to St. Mary"s College. Kay lived out her faith in the St. James community as an active parishioner serving as a liturgist and Eucharistic Minister. Her love of antiquing lead her to be a longtime member of Questers-Daisy Daniel"s Chapter. Kay was devoted to her family, friends and faith. She remained young in spirit, engaged in life, and always ready to find the good in others.Visitation from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, Illinois. Prayers 9:15 am, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Funeral Home, proceeding to St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, Illinois for Mass at 10:00 am.
