Kenneth's son Kenny and I became fast friends in first grade at St. James when we first moved to Arlington Hts. in 1977. Two years later, my parents purchased a home two blocks from the Andersons. We spent a lot of time running in and out of their house. Kenneth and Sheila were always so kind and welcomed me as I was constantly at their door.  The thing I most remember about Mr. Anderson is how he always shared his photos. He always gave people extra copies, whether it was a birthday party or a basketball game. He took great photos - awesome close ups. I think I might have been fourth or fifth string on the 6th grade basketball team, only going in the last 30 seconds if we were up by a lot or down by a lot. But Mr. Anderson always gave me several close up action photos like I was a starter. That generosity stuck with me. When I left for college and the army, I always had a camera with me. I always printed duplicates and gave them to people who were in the photos. To this day, many say thanks, they wouldn't have any memory of the experience without those photos. That was a direct impact from Mr. Anderson that was a part of my life - sharing photos. Whenever I come across a photo he gave my family and me, I always remember exactly where it came from. 

Finally, I had left town in 89 but was driving around in the old neighborhood in 2006ish and saw Mr. Anderson outside. I stopped, we chatted a bit, and I went on my way. I'm always grateful for his kindness.  He will be missed.

Dear Kenny and Jen, Patti and Steve, and Family,

As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator/Sacred Heart of Mary community, as well as my own.  Know that our hearts go out to you as you begin your journey of grief.  We pray for you as you share the stories, laugh and cry, and find ways to celebrate your father, your father-in-law, and the love you shared.

I was touched by the Tribute Wall post of a long time neighbor/friend who wrote about his deep appreciation for your father "sharing photos".  What a great tribute.  You must be proud also of his service to his country during the Korean War.  As I read the obituary for this "devoted husband…loving father…cherished Papa"…who "was loved and adored by countless family and friends and who will be greatly missed," I was reminded of a reading adapted from the Book of Sirach.

“Let us praise an illustrious man,
faithful to his family and friends, strong in his love.
At peace in his heart and his world,
he has left us his good name, and we recount his life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous man his good works will never be forgotten.
Among his family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of him….
His name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing his praises.
We proclaim his wisdom and love of life all our days.”

May God’s promise that life is changed, not ended, comfort you!
Fr. Zavaski often tells families that when you practice what you most admired about the person who died, they will be present.  May that knowledge give you peace and hope!
