OBITUARY

Leonard G. Eskuchen

August 21, 1942 – May 3, 2026
Obituary of Leonard G. Eskuchen
IN THE CARE OF

Glueckert Funeral Home

Len Eskuchen, of Prospect Heights, IL, was born August 21, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, and passed away on May 3, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by his family.

He grew up in the Sauganash neighborhood of Chicago alongside his sister Barbara and his identical twin brother Raymond. They are the main characters in countless stories told through the decades that colorfully recount their childhood and adolescent antics, always ending with a laugh and their mother’s recurrent quote, “Boys will be boys.”

Len graduated from North Park Academy and attended Illinois Wesleyan University and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. After enlisting in the US Naval Air Reserves, ultimately serving for 6 years at Glenview Naval Air Station VP 725, he married his college sweetheart, Denise Barkulis. Together they shared over sixty years of marriage in the northwest suburbs raising their two children, Kris and Kurt.

Side-by-side with Ray, Len’s career spanned 40 years in the family screw machine businesses located in Chicago, Franklin Park and Taiwan. His hobbies included golf, bridge, motorcycling, table pool, cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams (especially the Bears), and annual fishing trips to Mexico, Florida, and Canada. Retirement added the opportunity to travel to 5 continents and volunteer at Northwest Community Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Denise, children Kris Eskuchen (Mandy Spiess) and Kurt Eskuchen (Andi), grandchildren Rylie Eskuchen, Isabella Eskuchen, Mitch Thomas, Madeline Spiess, and Mackenzie Spiess; sister Barbara Lindholm (Wayne, dec); brother Raymond (Susan); and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Majorie Eskuchen.

Len embraced life fully, never wanting to miss out. He will be remembered for his positivity, sense of humor, loyalty to family and friends and unwavering love for his wife Denise.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of donations and flowers, please contribute to the charity of your choice.
