Lido Domenico Mugnaini, age 91, passed away on January 15, 2026. He was born on March 22, 1934, in Lammari, just outside of Lucca, Italy to Pio and Bruna (née Quilici). At the age of 14, Lido immigrated to the south side of Chicago.
In his early days in Chicago, Lido and his father owned and operated Lido’s Lounge, a welcoming neighborhood tavern on the north side. Later he continued his work in management in the beverage industry.
Lido enjoyed ballroom dancing and met his beloved wife, Anna (née Avella), at the Aragon Ballroom, a meeting that marked the beginning of a lifelong union. They were married in 1958 and shared many decades of love and family.
Lido was a die-hard Yankees fan, and his love of horses made him a frequent visitor to Arlington Racetrack. He enjoyed visiting family and friends and carried his Italian heritage close to his heart.
A gardener extraordinaire, Lido found joy and purpose working in his yard. He created a peaceful retreat, growing vegetables, cultivating a beautiful flower garden, and adding a small peach tree orchard.
Lido is survived by his wife, Anna, and their three children: Linda (Stephen) McMillan, Dean (Alice), and Mark (Cindy); seven grandchildren: Daniel, Nicholas, and Ella McMillan; and Megan (Omar) El Shal, Jennifer, Matthew, and Bridget Mugnaini; and two great-grandchildren, Leo and Luca El Shal. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lido will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on March 27 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Palatine.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lido’s memory to The Buddy Foundation https://www.thebuddyfoundation.org or The Salvation Army https://www.salvationarmyusa.org
