Linda Lee Dunn, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born Linda Lee Broberg, daughter of John and Charlotte, Linda grew up in Chicago and then Arlington Heights, IL. She is the eldest sister of Janet (late Terry) Smith and Judy Smith, who remember her as intelligent and wanting to help everyone. She attended Wheeling High School, which is when she was introduced to husband Dennis Dunn, set up on blind date at 15. These high school sweethearts attended Illinois State University together, where they married on August 22, 1970. They remained married for 55 years.
Dennis and Linda made their home in Round Lake, IL where they raised their family and were part of an endlessly supportive (and sometimes raucous) community. Linda lived her life with an open heart and a generous spirit. She spent over 25 years as a Special Education Teaching Assistant in the Round Lake Area School District, where she poured her endless patience and infinite caring into her students. Dennis and Linda were lifelong members of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church.
She poured herself and the truest form of unconditional love into her children: Eric (Amy) Dunn, Amanda (Jim) Kelly, and Debbie (Steve) Wargaski. Perhaps her greatest joy was being MorMor to her beloved grandchildren — Eamon Kelly (11), Evander Kelly (8), Olivia Wargaski (8), Layla Wargaski (5), and Veronica Gardner (27). Both children and grandchildren will always remember her ready presence – whether to read together, cheer them at every game / performance / special day, and provide the most comforting hugs when they needed it most.
Linda loved attending weddings with her large extended family and would often be seen kicking her shoes off to “Twist and Shout.” She had a gift for making ordinary moments feel special - whether through a kind word, a crocheted blanket, or remembering to bring your favorite dish. With a seemingly endless supply of greeting cards, she kept Hallmark in business and never missed a chance to remember every milestone, holiday and birthday to her long list of dear friends - whether that was her Bunco babes, Turkey Run bunch, or ladies who lunch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Denise and granddaughter Chelsea, who we know are welcoming her home.
Services: Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 4:00-8:00 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E Northwest Hwy, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
A service of remembrance will follow on Monday, October 27, at 11:00 AM, also at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home. Interment will take place at 12:15 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E Euclid Ave, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
While flowers are welcome, memorial contributions are appreciated to those causes close to Linda’s heart — American Cancer Society, Lupus Research Alliance, American Heart Association, and Mudlark Theater.
