Maria Thierjung Giordano, a longtime resident of both Chicago and Naperville, IL area passed away peacefully Sunday, the 21st of October 2018 at Presence Nazarethville Nursing Home. Maria will now join her husband, Louis and once again be in harmony with him.
Born March 7, 1928 in Kakinada, Yugoslavia, she was the daughter of Katharina (nee Wagner) and Peter Thierjung. She along with her parents, brother and sister, immigrated to America in a long journey during the war in the late 1940’s, finally arriving in Chicago as a young woman in 1951.
Maria had completed high school and became an apprentice tailor in Yugoslavia. Upon arrival to Chicago, was able to obtain a job as a seamstress for the Chicago Theatre in the early 1950’s before meeting her husband. They were married and had a family together and raised four daughters. Maria was a strong woman taking on the task of raising her family, aiding her husband after his stroke and going back to work to support the family after being a stay at home mom. She had much courage and determination to persevere through those fun and difficult years. Upon retirement she enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.
Maria was the beloved wife of the late Louis; loving mother of MaryLou (Don) Jarvis, Katharina (Mike) Compton, Elizabeth (Jerry) Gilio and Susan (Carl) Damlos; cherished grandmother of Steven (Tara) Jarvis, Kelley (Kevin) Markwell, Jennifer (Phillip) Tedford, Stacey Compton, Michael (fiancé Brianna Clancy) Compton, Ryan (fiancé Elizabeth Van) Jarvis, Kevin Compton, Christopher Damlos and Carl Damlos; great-grandmother of Paige and Hannah Markwell and Canaan and Charlotte Tedford and dear sister of the late Alex (late Susan Schwartz) Thierjung and the late Susanna (late Ignaz) Aufischer.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 8:30 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:45 AM at Presence Nazarethville Nursing Home Chapel, 300 N. River Road, Des Plaines.
