Maria Schlesak (née Wenzl), age 96, of Holiday, Florida and Arlington Heights, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026. Born January 25, 1930, in Futag, Yugoslavia, the daughter of Nicolaus and Maria (née Weber) Wenzl. Maria lived a long and full life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the simple joys she cherished. She married the love of her life, Michael Schlesak, on October 21, 1951, and together they shared 59 years of marriage until his passing in June 2010.
Maria was the loving mother of Guenther (Ellen) Schlesak and Herbert (Jennifer) Schlesak, and the proud grandmother of Kristen Caroline Schlesak, who brought her endless joy.
Known for her warmth and generosity, Maria expressed her love most naturally through cooking and baking—gifts she shared freely with family and friends. She also had a spirited competitive streak and delighted in playing cards, Rummikub, shuffleboard and Bingo, where her sharp mind and playful determination were always on full display. In her later years, she found special happiness on the golf course, riding in the cart and enjoying the sunshine, scenery, and companionship.
Maria will be remembered for the deep love she carried for those around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured and the many lives she touched.
On Monday, June 22, 2026, a visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of Mass, beginning at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Parish, 10 N Buffalo Grove Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089. Interment will take place immediately after at St. Mary Cemetery, which is just a short walk from the church.
