Marta E. Hart

Marta was born in Utica, NY on April 28, 1933. She was the oldest of three daughters born to Philip and Mary Jessica (Sullivan) Hanrahan. She grew up in Lewiston, NY, and was active in sports, playing baseball and basketball at Stella Niagara Academy. She was a reporter for the Niagara Gazette.

In September 1959, Marta married George N. Hart. They had five children: Maureen Scholl (Lawrence), Timothy (Carol), Meghan Ormiston (Brian), Brian (Elizabeth) and Kevin (Michelle). She was also a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Michael, Melissa, Ryan (Anna), Kelly, Bridget, Danny, Patrick, Madison, Patrick, Kellar and Kylie. And recently, the very proud great-grandmother to Charlotte Teresa Hart.

Marta was an amazing cook and loved to entertain. Her holiday cookie trays are legendary. She was also a wonderful seamstress, making clothes and Halloween costumes for her kids when they were young and later in life making quilts as proud supporter of Project Linus. She loved spending time with her family and participated in countless activities with her children and grandchildren, from coaching softball, to making gingerbread houses, to being the proudest fan in the stands at their many sporting events, concerts and shows. She was a very active member of St. Edna’s Parish in Arlington Heights for over 30 years. She also worked at the Daily Herald from the late 1970’s to the early 2000’s. She loved ND Women’s basketball and enjoyed many visits to South Bend to cheer on her team.

Marta is survived by her children and their families and her sisters, Ann Smith and Mary-Ellen Coughlin. She was preceded in death by her husband George N. Hart.

Memorial Visitation will be held on December 22, 2021 from 9:00am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Edna Catholic Church 2525 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Il 60004. Interment will be held privately with immediate family.
