Of Arlington Heights
Long-time Arlington Heights resident, Mary Kay Arndt, peacefully passed away surrounded by beloved family on January 8, 2024, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Mary Kay was born to John and Clara (nee Alberico) Zubcic on May 29, 1947, in Joliet, Illinois. She married her beloved husband, Paul Arndt, on April 4, 1970, and moved to Arlington Heights in 1977. After moving to Arlington Heights, Mary Kay worked for more than 30 years for School District 25, originally as a Playground Supervisor at Patton Elementary School, and retiring as the Purchasing Coordinator in the administration offices.
Before his passing in 2015, she and her husband Paul were active members for more than 20 years at the Midwest Greyhound Adoption helping to find homes for 100’s of adoptable greyhounds, as well as adopting and fostering numerous dogs over that time. Mary Kay and Paul enjoyed watching and listening to her beloved Chicago Cubs baseball games on WGN. They would often attend games at Wrigley Field or travel to “Wrigley North” in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She and her husband would often travel for long weekends camping, fishing, or just enjoying the sights of America’s Interstate highways. She and Paul would also participate in slot and poker tournaments at various area casinos. Her more recent joys came from getting together for Mahjong, monthly breakfasts, and backyard fireside chats with friends, cruising the Chain-O’-Lakes on her son’s pontoon boat, sitting on the swing of her other son’s back porch watching her grand-dogs play fetch, or cheering on her favorite softball player, her granddaughter Tatum.
Mary Kay is survived her sons Paul (Michele) and Stephen (Amy) Arndt; her granddaughter Tatum; her sister Barbara (George) Wozniak and her brother John Zubcic; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, as well as her beloved grand-dogs.
