Mary Lou Gorman was born on December 8, 1927 in Chicago to William and Eva (nee Lukanitch) Oberwise. She died Sunday, November 18, 2018 in Barrington.
Mrs. Gorman worked as an elementary teacher for School District #15 for over 35 years. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights, in which she served as a greeter, 10:00 am choir member and also had various leadership roles both on and off stage in St. James Community Theater. Mary Lou was a devoted life-long Cubs fan and loved watching all Chicago sports teams. She also enjoyed bowling, golf and playing cards with her friends, and was a world-wide traveler. Mary Lou and her husband Phillip were lifetime members of CFM (Christian Family Movement) and held international and local leadership roles. She authored and published her book “Parent to Parent” to assist CFM Families in raising their children from the perspective of a teacher. Mary Lou loved to spend time with her family and was loved by all.
Mary Lou is survived by her children, Linda (Cary) Annen, Gail (Michael) Mortensen, Laurel (Robert) Saflarski and Christel (Bryan) Gorman-Noble; grandchildren, Kyle (Marc Casarrubias) Annen, Daryl Annen, Drew Annen, Kady (Jonathan) Duncan, Kevin (Emily) Annen, Brittany (Nathan) Nairn, Lindsay Mortensen, Ashley Mortensen, Scott (Gretchen) Saflarski, Jack Saflarski, Erin Saflarski, Joshua Urback, Madeline Urback, and Luke Urback; step-granddaughters, Samantha, Sarah, and Bailey Noble; great-grandchildren, Hannah Nairn, Adeline Saflarski and James "Jamie" Duncan; sister-in-laws, Maureen (the late Charles) Clarke and Patricia (the late Richard) Gorman; and many nieces and nephews; and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Phillip Carroll Gorman; son, Gregory Gorman; her parents; brothers, William (Corrine) Oberwise and Robert (Laverne) Oberwise; and sister-in-law, Francelaine (Walter) Voltz.
Visitation Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Prayers 8:45 am, Monday, November 26, 2018 at the funeral home proceeding to Our Lady of the Wayside, 440 S. Mitchell Street, Arlington Heights, IL 60005 for a 9:30 am Funeral Mass. Interment will be at All Saints in Des Plaines.
