Our mother, Mary Denise “Dennie” Melroy, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, at the age 89. She was born in Saint Joseph, MO, the cherished daughter of Aloysius Robert and Mary Claudia (Acers) Wolters.
Dennie grew up in St. Joseph, MO. She met Robert “Bob” L. Melroy on a blind date, and, after dating for only about 6 months, they were married at the St. Joseph Cathedral on November 30, 1957.
When Mom talked about her life, she would say that all she ever really wanted was to be a mom. She was the heart of our home, selflessly thinking of and caring for others before herself. She was loving, kind, generous, and fun, and had the most beautiful smile. She would tell us that she was just like Mary Poppins, “practically perfect in every way”. We agree.
When we were older, Mom returned to school at Harper Community College in Palatine IL, where she earned an Associate Degree. She worked as a “temp” in many different companies. She was well respected professionally and enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. She regularly volunteered at Our Lady of Wayside and the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Dennie is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 62 years, Bob Melroy; and brothers-in-law, Rick Romero and John Buffum.
Dennie is survived by her 4 daughters: Theresa Melroy, Margaret (Melroy) married to Kurt Pairitz, Denise Melroy, Sharon (Melroy) married to Rob Kippenbrock; and 7 grandchildren: Carolyn (Pairitz) married to Derek Morris, Mark Pairitz, Alex Kippenbrock, Noah Kippenbrock, Claire Kippenbrock, Rose Kippenbrock, and Ruby Melroy; and 3 great-grandchildren: Grace, Theo and May Morris. She is also survived by her sisters, Leann Romero and Terry Buffum.
Visitation is Wednesday, November 26, 2025 from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights, IL. Interment will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor St. Joseph’s Home in Palatine, IL (littesistersofthepoorpalatine.org), or Our Lady of the Wayside Church in Arlington Heights, IL (olwparish.org).
