Formerly of Arlington Heights
Maureen Cecile Sadowski (nee Gibbons) of Arlington Heights, IL, died peacefully of natural causes at her home on Sunday, April 4, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old. Maureen was the wife of Kenneth T. Sadowski, Sr. who passed in 1999. Born in Chicago on June 25, 1935, Maureen was the youngest child of James Gibbons and Mary (O’Connell) Gibbons. She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica High School in 1953. Maureen chose to attend Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, KS, as a freshman. Her decision proved fortuitous because she met Ken Sadowski, the love of her life, who was a student at St. Benedict’s College. Maureen returned to Chicago to pursue her nursing degree but found her true calling as a devoted wife and mother of eight children.
Maureen was preceded in death by her husband Ken (1999) and daughter Cathy (2002) and is survived by her children, Ken Sadowski Jr. of Lake Zurich, IL, Sue (Bob) Lavigne of Lake Worth, FL, Tom (Annie) Sadowski of Crystal Lake, IL, Mary (Mark) Andersen of Granger, IN, Judy (Ken) Simmons of St. Charles, MO, Mike Sadowski of Lakewood, CO, and Cheryl (Jim) Lonergan of Lake Worth, FL, 17 grandchildren, 5 grandchildren-in-law, 7 great-grandchildren and another on the way. She was a dear sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Faith was the foundation of Maureen and Ken’s marriage. They became parishioners at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church in 1960. They were actively involved in various organizations, including PADS, Christian Family Movement, and served as Eucharistic Ministers. Following her husband’s passing, Maureen remained an active parishioner at OLW, continued in those capacities, and also served in hospital ministry. Maureen was a devoted nurse at Northwest Community Continuing Care Center. She was a member of the Arlington Heights Nurses Association, volunteered at St. Joseph's Nursing Home for many years, and was a driver for the American Cancer Society.
Maureen enjoyed playing bridge, participating in book club, playing cards with family and friends, and most of all loved the opportunity to host celebrations for friends and family alike. She was delighted to have any chance to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and share in their special milestones.
