Michael was born in Chicago on October 27, 1952, to parents Raymond and Roberta (nee Ehlen) Pontarelli.
Born to embrace the wonders of the world, Michael lived a life full of exploration and discovery. He found his greatest joy carving through the fresh powder on snow-covered mountains, where he felt most alive, skiing with a zest that matched his vibrant spirit.
An eternal student of nature and the cosmos, Michael was fascinated by science and outer space, often marveling at the mysteries of the universe and sharing his awe with everyone he met. His garden was a reflection of his nurturing soul, a space filled with blooming life that he lovingly tended as a testament to his appreciation for the earth’s beauty.
Michael was an architect and builder whose vision shaped not only homes but also the lives within them. He poured his heart into his work, crafting spaces that reflected both beauty and purpose. His designs stood as a testament to his artistry, precision, and understanding of what it means to create something lasting. Later in life, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to new ventures in energy and aerospace, where he sought sustainable solutions to benefit both people and the planet.
Music was another language through which Michael expressed his soul. He was a gifted musician who found solace and joy in playing the piano and guitar, filling his home with melodies that resonated with his love for life.
He is survived by his beloved wife and friend, Marian “Keeley” Lindner, his children, Christine (Slobodan Dzikoski) Pontarelli, James Pontarelli, and John Pontarelli, his grand-daughter, Zoe, his siblings, Valerie (Barry) Burgess, Robert (Karen) Pontarelli, and Louise (James) Cosmano, and Keeley’s daughter, Piper (Kyle) Pontious.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Pontarelli Jr.
His spirit lives on in the laughter of his loved ones, the beauty of the natural world, and the countless lives he impacted.
Rest in peace, Michael. May your adventurous soul forever ski the slopes of the stars and dance among the galaxies.
