

Mr. Opon served in the United States Navy. Nobert worked as a AS/400 administrator for Prestige Causality Company in Des Plaines for 12 years, Cornet Insurance Company of Chicago for 12 years and later he worked for Founders Insurance Company in Des Plaines for over 21 years. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights where he served as an usher and greeter for over 17 years. Norbert also was a member of the Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherds in Glenview, where Norbert served as treasurer for 10 years. He was a avid Chicago Bears fan, he loved cars, coffee, ice cream, and golf. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was loved by all.
Norbert is survived by children, Dawn Opon, Susan (Bruce) Wolski, Judith (the late Terry) Hopkins, and the late Laura (Jimmy) Walker; grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Eastep, Christina Wolski, Samantha Wolski, Margaret “Maggie” (Mike Wiencek) Salehzadeh, Matthew Salehzadeh, Michael Salehzadeh and Angel Walker; great-granddaughter, Grace Hope Wieneck; brother-in-law, Norbert Maza; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded into death by his loving wife, Mary (nee Knudsen), his parents; his siblings, Geraldine (Frank) Dobesh and Patricia Maza.
Visitation Monday, July 6, 2026, 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Morning Visitation Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.
