

Oliver Charles GreyA visitation and memorial service for Oliver "Bud" Grey, 97, will be held Sunday, October 11 at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, 302 N. Dunton Ave. Arlington Heights, with the visitation at 2:00 p.m. and the service at 3:00 p.m. A period of fellowship will follow.Mr. Grey, a salesman who retired from Tampax Incorporated as Vice-President of National Accounts, was for over 50 years a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights. He served in a variety of roles, including trustee and member of the Good Samaritan Visitation Group. For eleven years, until her death, he provided his beloved wife Grace with steadfast, attentive caregiving. Through that experience he became a tireless advocate for those in nursing home care and for staff overseeing their care. In recognition of this effort, the AARP awarded him a Citizenship Award, one of sixty presented in 2001 to individuals "in recognition of continuing contribution to the state of Illinois and its residents." An avid newspaper reader and concerned citizen, Mr. Grey was a frequent contributor to the Arlington Herald Fence Post column where, over four decades, he shared perspectives on a wide range of community, state and national issues. A veteran of WWII, he remained a loyal member of the American Legion and was a life-long Chicago White Sox fan.He is survived by three children, Thomas (Carolyn) Grey of Spokane WA; Laurel (Jim) Filapek of Appleton, WI; and Dan (Hyesuk) Grey of University Place, WA and grandchildren Amy, John, Julie, Sara, Joe, Andrew and Angela. He is further survived by twelve great grandchildren, a brother, Don (Rosemary) Grey,nieces, nephews and treasured friends.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Grace and Oliver Grey Charitable Fund at the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, 4455 W.
