Since I was kid my dad used to tell us fun stories about his brother Omar, he was son fond of him that he named his youngest child like him. Omar was hero on our eyes, he left Cuba when he was very young, made his way up in US far from the family, he enrolled in the military and was part of the US army on WW II, he returned back from war and devoted to work hard to provide for his family, he endured the battles of life with tenacity, perseverance and peace.
I met my uncle Omar in 1996 upon my arrival to US. He pretty much resembled my dad, he was calm, did not speak much and never heard him criticizing any one, he would do his best no to be a burden to anybody, and he was generous and very familiar. He had the gift to remain calm in any situation that I have seen very few people to have it.
I respect and honor Omar Paneque, he leaves a legacy with his daughter Odette, grandson Joseph and granddaughter Victoria . I admire him and was proud to have an uncle that served in the military in this great nation during WWII. May God grant him an eternal place of peace, and give his family peace and comfort.
