Patricia K. Smith

Patricia K. Smith, 97, was born on August 15, 1926, in Pontiac, MI to Edward and Gertrude (nee Babcock) Karkau. She died Sunday, February 11, 2024 at The Moorings of Arlington Heights, in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Patricia was a renowned quilt maker and seamstress. Her talent for quilting was unmatched, and her creations were celebrated both locally and nationally. She poured her heart and soul into each intricate stitch, weaving together memories, love, and artistry. This talent was a testament to her patience, skill and attention to detail. Patricia's quilts will forever be cherished as special heirlooms, encapsulating her creativity and dedication. Apart from her quilting, she spent countless hours refinishing furniture over the years, both at home and the family cottage in Michigan. She also had an affinity for dogs which led to a particular love of Collies.

Patricia worked several part-time jobs through-out her life. However, her favorite was working with and selling fabric at Hagenbrings in Arlington Heights. In addition, Patricia was a talented homemaker and decorator. Her culinary skills were extraordinary, making her an excellent cook and a natural at creating delectable dishes with fresh fruits and vegetables She was at the forefront of healthy cooking, inspiring others especially her family, to embrace a wholesome lifestyle.

Patricia is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Margaret) and Randolph Smith; and her grandson, Ryan.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; and her parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday February 20, 2024, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Committal Service 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, 1185 West Algonquin Road, Palatine, IL 60067. Please meet in front of the office.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be given to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Chicago, www.alz.org/illinois.
