

Pearl Jeanette Boggan Edgar was born September 18, 1923 in Douglas County Nebraska, and passed away on March 14, 2023 at Friendship Village, Schaumburg, Illinois at age 99. She grew up in Elkhorn, Nebraska and attended the Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, as well as Grinnell College and the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York where she studied costume design and illustration. She married Thomas Webster Edgar, Jr. in New York on May 1, 1948. They had 3 children: Priscilla, Jack, and Tom. They were divorced in 1958. Pearl worked as a fashion illustrator for Department stores and later attended the University of Arizona, earning her Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation. Pearl then worked for the State of California as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Deaf until her retirement in 1988. She was active in the Deaf community in all of the places she lived.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph Boggan and Pearl Jeanette Alcorn Boggan, and Elijah Ruffin, her great great grandson. She is survived by her children, Priscilla R. Miller, Lawrence, Ks., John C (Gail) Edgar, Long Grove, Ill, and Thomas W. (Gaylene) Edgar, Arvada, Co.; grandchildren, Sean (Jan) Miller, Lawrence, Ks., Chris (Lindsay) Miller, Wichita, Ks., Emily Edgar (Chris) Howard, Arvada, Co., Anna Edgar (David Stauss), Denver, Co., Burke (Tiffany) Edgar, Arvada, Co., Todd (Stephanie) Edgar, Pulcapa, Peru, Owen Edgar, Phoenix, Az., Allison Edgar (Greg) Petrucci, Surprise, Az., and 18 great grandchildren.
