Rich was a mentor to me and I will always consider him the best boss I ever had. Two of my favorite pearls of wisdom I received from him were:   "Never complain to the company about communication, all you get is more meetings."   And in reference to managing people, he said "Don't mess with their space, don't mess with their time, don't mess with their money." And for those of you that knew Rich, you knew that he used a more colorful word than "mess" in that statement.   He will be missed greatly and for those who he has left behind, know that he had a positive impact on a lot of people. I'm a better person because he was my boss.

I have very fond memories of Stats from the Spent Hoover days - he taught me the proper way to keep a scorecard! Chris and Katie, I'm so sorry to hear of Rich's passing - please accept my condolances..

We were so shocked and saddened to hear about Rich's passing.  Sending love and support to Chris, Katie, and his family...and we hope he's enjoying a great round on a beautiful fairway somewhere up there.

Nothing breaks my heart more than not being able to be there in person with family during such a hard time. I love you all so much and I miss my Uncle Rich every day. He was like a second father to me and not just because when I was a kid I thought my dad was him when he shaved off a beard. Uncle Rich always filled every room with joy, laughter and most importantly love. The world won't be the same without him but it was forever changed for the better because of him.

The Parise family sends its heartfelt sympathy to Lynn, William, Tom and the entire Hebel family. The Parises shared many happy memories with the Hebel family going back over 70 years. Some of our fondest childhood memories was Christmas at Nonno and Nonna's....then the tradition continued at the Hebels and the fun continued. This one was from 1964 or 65. Cugini! <3

Who travels half way across the country for a wedding, a family get together, or simply a lovely aunts birthday?  The DeBiasio clan, that’s who! And Rich was no exception! Always there with a smile, that happy Hebel laugh and his beautiful girls, Chris and  Katie in tow.      Maria and Sisto kicked things off up in the Dolomites around a century ago. Their trek took them half way around the world! Such a tremendous family and so many fond memories were created for us all by their hand.     Rich, at the center of a growing brood of cousins was always willing to teach the pesky, big eared, little shadow I was the secrets of CLUE and then crush me in a game of BATTLESHIP! Or was it Bill?!?! Truth be told, none of us knew, but they traded their identities to humor, help and then finally get away from the pain that I’m sure I was!      Regardless, I count my blessings every time I see any member of this wonderfully eclectic group of Hebel’s, Sullivan’s, Gulick’s, Sheible’s, Tomaselli’s, .....DeBiasio’s!  Rich’s passing is a gentle reminder of just how important “family” is.  How quickly 100 years can fly by and Jimmy and Rich are headed to the basement to help Nonno make sausage. Richard Hebel, cugino to many cugini, shared a bloodline that trickles down from the snow-covered peaks of the Dolomiti of Northern Italy. His DeBiasio-Tomaselli heritage was deliciously evident (so I’m told) in the texture of his polenta and seasoning of his stew every Christmas Eve. Richard’s Italian giving didn’t stop there, for you only need to take one look at beautiful Katie Lynn to see that his mother’s genes tipped the scale when it came to creating the next generation. Bravo, Ricardo!  Richard belonged to a male-dominated pack of cugini who made noise in a pool-tabled Deerfield basement with no room for the likes of timid little girls. But his early claim to family fame came under the glaringly bright lights of his father’s holiday movie equipment. There we were—Hebels, Sullivans, and Gulicks—each of us cute(ish) in our own right, but none as adorable as Richard and his buddy, William. How many dozens, or thousands, of baby pictures have we seen of the dynamic duo with matching  Marshall Field’s outfits? Had we known the secret of the wrist freckle early on, a lot of confusion could have been avoided.  A big chunk of time came between our young years and our old, but on this aging end, I am blessed to have shared some sadness and much happiness with Rich. I thank Richard for giving our family Chris and Katie, who we will continue to care for and love. And I will think of Rich when I watch the favored Chicago baseball team, for in the words of the matriarch fan, “there are now two angels in heaven cheering for the Cubbies.” Ci vediamo, paesano.
