Richard was raised on the northwest side of Chicago and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago (then housed at Navy Pier) and Loyola Medical School.
After completing his internship and residency at Washington University in St. Louis, he volunteered for the U.S. Air Force and spent two years as a flight surgeon.
He completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Richard’s clinical practice was in invasive and interventional cardiology. He served as Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and as Chief of Cardiology at the University of Illinois Hospitals.
After retiring from clinical practice, Richard began working for National Imaging Associates. He considered himself fortunate to have met and worked with many talented people throughout his long-standing career in medicine.
Richard married his high school sweetheart, Meredith, and together they had three wonderful children and five cherished grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Caroline and Milton Levinsky, and his brother, Nicholas Levinsky.
He is survived by his siblings, David Levinsky, Marcia Schwarzinger, and Betsy Carter. He is also survived by his beloved wife, Meredith; his children, Matthew Levinsky, Jennifer Levinsky, and Rebecca Park (SangSu Park); and his grandchildren, Grace, Jacob, Trevor, Mallory, and Cassidy.
Richard had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all.
Visitation for Dr. Richard A. Levinsky will be held at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004, on September 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will take place at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, 302 North Dunton Avenue, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004, on October 24, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a 2:00 p.m. service to follow.
