Rita L. Corrigan

Rita L. Corrigan, 73, a 42-year resident of Mt. Prospect was born April 16, 1943 in Chicago to the late Michael and Anna (nee Seemann) Pfaller and passed away July 23, 2016. Rita was the beloved wife of Joseph M. Corrigan for 52 years; loving mother of Marybeth (Burt) Buchen, Melissa Corrigan, Christine (Adam) Whitsitt and Abigail (Patrick) Corcoran; cherished grandmother of Lily, Clara, Timothy, Emmett, Cecilia, Sawyer, Josephine and Jameson and dear sister of Benedict (late Luann) Pfaller and Barbara (John) Marchok. Rita attended Alvernia High School in Chicago. Following that she received a degree in nursing from St. Vincent’s in Chicago. She worked in the nursery at Swedish Covenant Hospital and then moved on to being a private practice family medicine nurse with Dr. Hogstrom. She continued her nursing career and eventually decided to devote all her time to raising her family. After devotedly raising her four daughters, she enjoyed a second career as a highly-respected manager at Carson Pirie Scott & Co in Mt. Prospect, where she worked for over 20 years. Upon retiring from Carson’s she worked and volunteered for many years at Wings. Rita couldn’t sit still and kept everyone around her on their toes, especially when it came to maintaining a clean house. After 52 years of marriage, Joe learned many tricks, including keeping his hand on his glass at the dinner table as it would often disappear before he was finished. Additionally, she enjoyed a strong, hot cup of coffee, sweet treats, a good book, listening to Blackhawks games on the radio, and relaxing with a cold glass of chardonnay. Important to mention is that over the years, Rita created an unspoken family pecking order, with Bailey the dog eventually rising to the top.Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Her family loved her dearly and will forever miss her. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 3-8 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said Wednesday, July 27 at 10:45 AM at the funeral home and proceed to St. Emily Church, 1400 E. Central Road, Mt. Prospect for funeral mass at 11:30 AM. Interment All Saints Cemetery.
