Of Mount Prospect
Robert David Amend, Bob, was born January 3, 1941 in Chicago to Milton and Ida (nee Rapport) Amend. He died peacefully on November 17, 2020 surrounded by his children and the love of his family.
Bob was raised in Chicago with his younger brother Harvey. Inspired by his mother, who worked as a bookkeeper, he studied for a degree in accounting and became a CPA. He met his wife Carol when she was attending Nursing School and they quickly fell in love and started their own family, raising Diane, Jim, and Melissa. He spent a career in accounting, going on to become very active in the Illinois chapter of the CPA Society, serving on finance councils of various organizations, and always lending a hand to his family and friends during tax season. Beyond his career as a CPA, Bob was a proud “paid-on-call” firefighter as he raised his family in Des Plaines.
Bob always put his family first and was known to be the life of a party. Bob was incredibly proud of Diane, Jim, and Melissa as they went on to marry Mark, Lynn, and Brian and build their own families. His grandchildren were the loves of his life. Grandpa Bob never missed a sporting game, concert, play, or activity. He loved spending time with all his grandkids and passed down his love for games and cards.
Family gatherings were always special, from Christmas celebrations in Carol’s hometown of Indianapolis with his beloved nieces and nephews to Cousins Club picnics to spontaneous gatherings “just because.”
Bob was a friend to all and known for being very active in many different clubs and groups. He was very active at St. Edna and served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Human Concerns Commission, and most recently as a Minister of Care bringing prayerful visits and communion to the sick and homebound. Bob cherished his times and friendships from the St. Isaac Jogues Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, and his decades long card clubs.
Bob is survived by his children: Diane (Mark) Mulroe, Jim (Lynn) Amend and Melissa (Brian) Rothas; his grandchildren Moriah, Sarah, Nicholas, Samuel, Adam, Hannah, Derek, Brett, Kelsey, Hope and Jared; his brother Harvey (Sherry) Amend and by the many nieces and nephews whom he adored.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carol (nee Cox) Amend; his grandson Matthew Mulroe and by his parents.
