

Dr. Hazelrigg was born June 10, 1940 to Bob and Jane Hazelrigg of Winchester, Illinois. Upon graduation from Jacksonville High School in 1958, he attended Illinois College. From there, he continued his studies at the University of Illinois in Urbana and, finally, graduated with an M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago.
Dr. Hazelrigg completed his residency training at Georgetown University in neurology. That was followed by entering the United States Air Force as a major, stationed at Andrews Airforce Base in Maryland.
In the later 1970s, Dr. Hazelrigg and family moved to Sylvania, Ohio where he worked as the Chairman and Program Director of The Headache Care Center of the Toledo Hospital and the Toledo Clinic. He was a clinical investigator for Glaxo Pharmaceuticals and co-authored several articles on the use of newer medications for the treatment of headaches. In 1995, he and his wife moved to Chicago where he joined the Department of Neuropathology of Cook County Hospital. He finished his medical career in 2017 as the neurologist for the Traumatic Brain Injury Unit of the Captain James Lovell Federal Healthcare Center.
Robert is survived by his sister, Judy Reed, of Deland, Florida and daughters Sara Megibow of Lafayette, Colorado and Abby Usayiwevu of Santa Clarita, California as well as their spouses and four wonderful grandchildren.
A true Renaissance man, Robert loved to cook, play the piano, and study the brain. He dabbled in a variety of hobbies including: painting, stamp-collecting, gem-collecting, HAM radio, HO model trains, and much more.
Dr. Hazelrigg was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Hazelrigg, who died on March 9, 2017.
The family is very grateful for the excellent hospice care given to Dr. Hazelrigg at Friendship Village in Schaumburg during his last days. A memorial service will take place at All Saints Church in Pasadena, California.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
