Robert Charles Heilig was born May 4, 1925 in Chicago to Anton H. and Marie (nee Ambos) Heilig. He died September 2, 2020 at Church Creek Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.
Bob proudly served in the Navy during WWII. He was an avid golfer, bowler, baseball fan and dancer. He and June would clear the dance floor at weddings and functions, with their favorite dance - the Cha Cha. He and June were married for 71 years and were inseparable during their 23 retirement years in Florida. Together the two traveled throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Their last big trip was to China in 2008. Bob was a long-time member of the Des Plaines Elks Club and The Constellation Masonic Lodge in Des Plaines, formerly the Avondale Masonic Lodge, of which he was Worshipful Master in 1974.
Robert is survived by his son Steven (Kathryn) Heilig; his grandson Brian (Diana) Heilig; and by his great grandsons Grayson and Nathan Heilig and by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife June R. (nee Soehrmann) Heilig; his brothers Eugene (Dorothy) Heilig and Richard (Mildred) Heilig; and his parents.
Visitation Monday, September 14, 2020 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. (Capacity limits, PPE requirement, and social distancing in effect) Robert will be laid to rest next to his wife at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, with full military honors. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, the services will be recorded and posted to Robert’s tribute wall on the Glueckert Funeral Home website.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist of Church of Arlington Heights, 1903 E. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
