Robert Walter Katovich, age 79, passed away on April 21, 2026. Born on November 14, 1946, in Oak Park, Illinois, he was the son of Robert and Gabrielle Katovich. He spent his early years growing up in Wood Dale and later Arlington Heights, Illinois, as one of six children: Sue, Bob, Kathy, Mike, Jim, and John.
Robert graduated from Arlington High School in 1964 and went on to attend St. Norbert College in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was later drafted into the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War, stationed in Büren, Germany. While in Germany, he met the love of his life, Ute Wadas. Their meeting began a devoted marriage that lasted 56 years.
Following his military service, Robert and Ute settled in Arlington Heights and later made their home in Schaumburg, Illinois, where they raised their four children: Kevin (Lindsay), Natascha (Chandler), Dave (Melinda), and Chris.
Robert had a long and dedicated career with Illinois Bell, which later became AT&T and then Lucent Technologies. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his family.
He was a man of many interests. He was an avid reader, a regular exerciser, and a passionate cook. He also had a natural talent for fixing things, often taking on carpentry, electrical, and plumbing projects around the home. Known for his dry sense of humor, Robert never spoke ill of others and consistently put those around him before himself. He was deeply loved and admired by all who knew him.
Above all, Robert found his greatest joy in being a grandfather. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren: Emma, Reese, Samantha, Jonah, Maddox, Aiden, Cole, Maxx, and Mae.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandson, Aiden. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Ute Katovich; his children; his grandchildren; his siblings; and many adoring nieces and nephews who all loved "Grandpa/Uncle Bob."
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26th, 2026 at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois, from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
