Of Streamwood
Ronald E. Poremba was born September 3, 1947 in Chicago to Ted and Mildred (nee Bohaty) Poremba.
He died July 18, 2020 at Alexian Brothers Hospice in Elk Grove Village.
Ron was an avid hunter in his youth, though that lost it’s flair after being required to use his skill (Expert
Marksman) against other men during Viet Nam- thereafter he could shoot only cans & bottles. He had a
love for being outside, especially the rivers, creeks, forests & mountains of the US, but a special place in
his heart was the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Here his son was born and himself ingrained with a passion
for all things nature, with an annual fishing trip to the garage turned cabin built by his parents in Medford,
WI. Ron also loved fast cars, tweaking his own ‘63 Impala & ‘65 Corvette, settling for standard factory
models, but always a black 5-speed. Other loves included old westerns, particularly anything starring
John Wayne, an admiration inherited from his father, and passed along to his son.
Ron was drafted into the Army- B Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Armored Cavalry, Americal Division in
October 1966, and honorably discharged in August of 1968, for which he received 2 Purple Hearts For
Wounds Received In Action, (one with First Oakleaf Cluster). “It means I forgot to duck” he would chuckle
dismissively. However he finally accepted this distinction and began plans for approval to be buried in the
Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia with full military honors, which his son will complete & see
through. He is also a Life Member of the VFW.
Ron is survived by his son Mike Poremba; his siblings Dan Poremba and Kathy (Blaine) Domich; his
nieces Lisa Glenn and Angie Bush, and nephew Rob Fehling; his cousins Candy Smolak, Susie Smolak,
Donna Smolak and Ken Alberts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles, & cousin.
Memorial visitation will be Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 1 PM until the time of memorial service at 4 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Military Order Of The Purple Heart Service
