

Ruth Elaine Davis was born July 14, 1938, to Dr. Ellis C. Johanson and Mary Louise Johanson in Muskegon, Michigan. She died February 4, 2023, in Arlington Heights, Illinois after a brief illness. She married her high school sweetheart, Owen F. Davis, on June 19, 1960, in Battle Creek, Michigan and they had 62 happy years of marriage together.
Ruth graduated in 1960 from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. After teaching high school for a year, she joined Owen for his Army deployment in England, ultimately moving to the Chicago area in 1963. They raised their daughters Debora and Dianne in Des Plaines.
She was known for her unconditional love for her family, her devotion to her church, her love of music which including playing violin and singing in the church choir for many years at First Baptist Church of Park Ridge, and her amazing organization skills. She was the calm in any storm. She sewed dresses for herself, daughters, granddaughters, and their dollies. She baked yummy treats when sweetness was needed and passed on her love of baking to the younger generations of the family. Ruth worked at Kar Products in Des Plaines for many years as an Executive Secretary, and when the company location closed, she became the Church Secretary for Christ Church in Des Plaines until she retired. Ruth and Owen relocated to Arlington Heights in 2002, making their home at Luther Village and joining The Orchard Evangelical Free Church where Ruth served for many years until her recent illness as the Secretary for the New Commandment Sunday School Class and on the class steering committee.
Ruth is survived by her husband Owen Davis, daughters Debora Land (Tore Land) and Dianne Orth (Lawrence Orth), grandchildren Rachel Chan (Ron Chan), Sara Emily, Lexa Land, Macai Olson (Luke Olson), Renee Cabalka (Conner Cabalka), Benjamin Orth (Brittney Orth), Rebecca Marsh (Sam Marsh), and 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Robert Clarke Johanson.
Visitation will be on February 16, 2023, from 9:00am to 11:00am at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights IL. Funeral service will follow in the chapel at Glueckert starting at 11:00am. Live streaming will be available on the Glueckert website for those loved ones who are unable to attend in person. A private burial service for immediate family will follow.
