Sandra J. Schroeder

Sandy attended Valparaiso University and graduated in 1958 with a BS in Biology. She then became an accredited Medical Technologist and worked at Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. Sandy later transferred to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, IL shortly after its opening and worked there until 2000, when she retired.

Sandy married Kenneth Schroeder on May 13, 1961 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, IL. They had two daughters, Robin Marie ’64 and Kelly Jean ’67. Sandy and Ken loved to travel. As a family, they spent several weeks every summer traveling the US and were lucky enough to say that they had visited every state in the continental US and most of the Canadian provinces by the time of Ken’s death in 1997.

Sandy's faith was an important part of her life. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir at Faith Lutheran Church and also sang in the choir at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, both in Arlington Heights. Sandy and Ken made lifelong friendships from both of these churches. Sandy also volunteered at The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights for many years.

Sandy is survived by her children, Robin (Tony) Gialanella of Arlington Heights and Kelly (Kevin) Knudson of Loves Park; and grandchild, Aleah Knudson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Schroeder; and her parents.
