

Scott Andrew Tomes, 41, was born on January 16, 1981, in Highland Park, IL to James and Betty (nee Gillis) Tomes. He died Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at his home.
Scott is survived by his mother, Betty (Jerry) Hidalgo; his brother Russell (Angela Duff) Tomes; his nephew and niece Nolan and Ellery Tomes; and his beloved cat and devoted companion, Shadow.
He is preceded in death by his father and his dear cats, Penny and Ronnie.
Scott earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2003 and a degree in Digital Media Arts from Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy in 2010.
He loved the arts and was a talented musician who played multiple instruments. During his time in Lincoln, he established himself within the vibrant music scene. He continued his growth as a singer-songwriter after moving to Chicago and was lead singer and guitarist for Chicago area band, The Dead Seahorses.
Scott was also known to many as a friendly face at Starbucks. Others met him at live shows and music festivals, where he was a fixture. For several years he hosted quiz competitions at Geeks Who Drink, and he also enjoyed acting as a cast member at Rob Zombie's Great American Nightmare haunted house.
He won a couple of broomball championships with his team the Ice Crushers at the Glenview Ice Center.
He was an avid movie buff and his passion for all things Star Wars was legendary. He took pride in being in line at the opening of each film and amassed an impressive collection of memorabilia.
For his family, he was all of these things but most of all he was a wonderful son. He was an amesome brother with a big personality. He was an absolutely amazing uncle to his nephew Nolan and his niece Ellery. Like everyone whose lives he touched, we will always love him and miss him.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm, Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Funeral Service 11:30 am, Monday, December 5, 2022, at the Funeral Home. Interment following at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
