Dear Douglas, Patrick, Kevin, and Nancy,

As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus at Saint Viator High School, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator High School community, as well as my own.  I was at your brother Michael’s Mass and would have come to your Mother’s, but I just found out that she died.  Know that our hearts go out to you as you move through your journey of grief.  We pray for you as you continue to share the stories...laugh and cry...and find ways to celebrate the life of your Mother and the love you shared.

As I think about this “beloved wife…loving mother… cherished grandmother” who “will always be remembered for her great love of family, friends, her deep faith and compassion for others,” I am reminded of an adaptation of a reading in the book of Sirach:

“Let us praise an illustrious woman,
faithful to her family and friends, strong in her love.
At peace in her heart and her world,
she has left us her good name, and we recount her life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous woman her good works will never be forgotten.
Among her family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of her….
Her name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing her praises.
We proclaim her wisdom and love of life all our days.”

May you be comforted by the fact that death cannot take away the love, the memories, the faith!
May the knowledge your Mother lives on in your goodness give you peace and hope.

I have very fond memories of Aunt Shirley.   She was such a kind, sweet, gentle and caring woman. After I was married and my family moved out of state, I received a beautiful handwritten note from Aunt Shirley, with kind words of encouragement on the new adventure we were about to embark on.  I kept that letter for more than 20 years and would reread it often. You never know what small gesture will make such a big impact on someone else's life.  That was Aunt Shirley.    Wishing the family peace, comfort and joy in your memories.

Cherished is an understatement.  Gram Powers will always be missed and remembered as a stalwartly moral woman of warm heart, kind words, and cookies at her table.  Shirley lovingly welcomed and included two extremely lucky wayward teens, Peggy and myself (among others I'm sure), and our families in joining hers.  I think I speak for Peggy when I say we're very grateful to her for that inclusion.  Her life's reflection in all of her own children and their deeds say more for her and her life than any more words I can find.  Rest in peace, Gram, in your continuing existence in God's awesome hands along with Gramps, Michael, and your Donald.

Nancy ,my condolences to you and your family.  I will keep you all in my prayers.

I have fond memories of large family gatherings at Aunt Shirley's house with lots of us kids running about. Despite the many challenges she faced in her life, she always had a smile on her face, a positive attitude and the ability to take them on.  My condolences to the whole family, she leaves behind quite a legacy.

Her strength and faith made her the amazing person she was.  She was such an inspiration to others for the way she lived her life.

I was honored to be part of her wedding in 1947.

I'm so sorry for your loss.   Aunt Shirley was always kind to others, always smiling and forever leading thru example.  Her inner strength and peace were an inspiration.  I'm praying for your whole family as you navigate the coming months mourning her loss.


Shirley was my patient and friend for 30 years. 
I loved her like my mother and loved spending time with her. She loved to come to my daughters dances, theatre productions and more. She was part of my family. Her loss is hard for me. 
She was an amazing person and I will remember and love her always. She was one of the strongest women I have ever met. Her memory will live on in me forever. She truly made a difference in my life. 

It was my honor and privilege to know Shirley and your family. She always was smiling and was so young at heart. 
I certainly will miss her.
She was a true hero.

The Power family has been part of the Clark family my entire life. Growing up we had BBQ's, picnic's great get togethers. Shirley and my Mom were best friends. Shirley was an angel on earth. For all she went through with her health, I never saw such love, courage and strength. I know she's in heaven and Mom and Shirley are having a wonderful time. My love and prayers are with friends and family. 

Nancy, I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. Glenn and I will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers during this time.  Love and hugs to you.
