Shirley Anne Puls, 96, was born on March 11, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Carl and Mildred (nee Hakendorf) Lohrentz and passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024. Shirley was the beloved wife to the late Robert E. Puls for over 70 years; loving mom to Sheryl (Gary Todd) DeGrave; cherished grandmother to Daniel (Nancy) DeGrave, Dylan (Monika) DeGrave, and Cory DeGrave; blessed great-grandmother to Sofia, Mia, and Ava DeGrave; dear sister to Carol (late husband Bud) Wiemann, Carlton (Jan) Lohrentz; and also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and neighbors.
Shirley was a graduate of Luther Institute in 1946. She and her late husband worked side by side as owners of R. Puls Greenhouses in Morton Grove for 27 years. She subsequently was a valued employee for Rick Batliner and Associates Financial Planners when they moved to Arlington Heights. Shirley loved to travel, golf, and play cards. She was an esteemed member of the 99 Hall of Fame. But she especially enjoyed her grandsons' sporting events, and more recently her interactions with her three great-granddaughters. Fiercely independent, Shirley still resided in her own home and drove her own car until the day she died.
