

Sister Stella lived as a religious and loved her vocation for over 80 years. She went peacefully to God and her eternal rest on August 10, 2026. Having lived at Resurrection Life Center, Chicago, for the last several years she had the joy of visits by many of the sisters who lived nearby. Sister Stella was born in 1927 in Waconia, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Hedwig (Hattie) Stacken; her sister Margaret (Gene), Willems; brothers Roman (Grace), Cyril (Valeria), Edward (Virginia), Henry (Mary Ann), Charlie (Phyllis), Harold, Art (Gertrude), Joseph (Betty), and James Stacken; sister-in-law Carolyn Stacken; brother-in-law Jack Lucy. She is survived by her sisters, Darlene (Harry) Matti, JoAnn (Giles) Lenzmeier, Lucy Ann Lucy; brother Paul (Pat) Stacken; sister-in-law Adeline Stacken and many nieces and nephews. Sister Stella taught all grades in elementary school from 1946 through 1998. She ministered in various schools in Illinois, Minnesota, and Sioux City, IA . She was appointed principal in three schools and had the joy of being principal from 1967-1973 at St. Mary, Riverdale, IL when Pope Leo XIV was a student there. She is grateful to the Sisters of Christian Charity for her education and ministry. In 1975 she joined the Sisters of the Living Word, a second vocational call.
