After a couple of health setbacks this past year, Susan B. Johnson passed away at the age of 70, on February 12, 2023 surrounded by loved ones.
Susan was known by many as one of the strongest and most vivacious women they knew. She was a kind, caring and extremely generous individual who always put the needs of others before her own. She was known for her sense of humor and cherished for the many laughs that were shared amongst friends.
Susan grew up in Rockford, Illinois and graduated from ISU in 1974 with a Bachelor's Degree in Deaf Education. After graduating, she went on to pursue a career in teaching and eventually earned her Master's Degree in Early Childhood. She dedicated her entire life to helping others from volunteering at Middle Earth in college to devoting nearly 40 years of her life to teaching children with special needs. She was, without a doubt, one of the “good ones” with a true heart of gold.
She was an unwaveringly strong woman who overcame many challenges in her life and handled them with courage and dignity. She was a hard-working single mother who has always been a source of inspiration to those closest to her and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Susan was predeceased by her brothers, Jeffrey and Michael and her parents Earle and Helene Johnson. She is survived by her brother Stephen Johnson and sister, Janet Farbotko. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, Elise & Dan Stone along with her true pride and joys, her grandchildren, Trey & Sienna.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Susan’s name to Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital as this organization was important to her as Trey received medical care there due to being born premature. A fundraising page has been setup in her honor and can be accessed here: https://events.luriechildrens.org/community-fundraising/in-memory-of-gamby.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 10 AM – 1 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
