Born November 15, 1946, in Chicago, she was the third of the three Irish beauties born to Peter and Margaret Loughran.
She married the love of her life and partner in adventure, John Riley, on Sept. 27, 1969, at Saint Ethelreda's Catholic Church in Chicago.
Sue was a graduate of Fox College and worked in a variety of administrative fields as they moved around the country, some of her favorites being her time in the City of Naperville's Mayor's Office and at Somerset Medical Center in New Jersey.
But her true gift was being a welcoming and loving mother, grandmother and friend. Mom never met a party theme she couldn't take four steps further than anyone else. Their Halloween parties are the stuff of legend, and if you knew Sue you knew to never open one of her birthday cards inside your house unless you wanted to spend the rest of the day sweeping up glitter and confetti.
She was the only one to capture her mother's secret Irish Soda Bread recipe and thankfully passed her bread-making talent down to her beloved grandchildren. She tried to pass it on to her sisters, daughters, and nieces, but every bread-making party ended with too much laughter and not enough bread knowledge.
Mom was blessed with many lifelong friends who were always up for a dinner, a trip, truly crazy gift exchanges and, most importantly, love and laughter. She and her sisters Peg and Kathy looked so much alike they were often confused for each other, and Sue loved to chat with people pretending to be one of her sisters (and making plans for them with their friends).
She is survived by her loving husband John, three children: Ann (Dave) Hill, Kathy (Eric) Nikolai, and John (Mary) Riley as well as eight grandchildren who could do no wrong: Kate, Sean and Kevin Hill; Molly, Jake and Quin Nikolai; and John and Lucy Riley, her sister Kathy Myers, sisters-in-law Marien (David) Kyzner and Linda Brierre; and her closest friends who were by her side to the end, Helen Burke and Virge Boggs.
She was preceded by her parents, her sister Peg White, brothers-in-law Bill White and Will Myers, sister-in-law Susie Riley.
A visitation for Suzanne will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Saint Mary Parish, 10 N Buffalo Grove Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089. The funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Saint Mary Parish. The interment will be on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421.
Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated, in the hopes of finding a cure for this dreadful disease. Mom would also love it if you called some friends and had a party for absolutely no reason at all.
