

Thomas W. Dooley, a 48 year resident of Arlington Heights, IL, died at the age of 82 on March 10th. Tom was born in Covington, KY, on June 28, 1932, the only child of Thomas C. and Clara (Smith) Dooley. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Loraine (Rehkamp); a daughter, Mary (Douglas Armstrong), and three sons, Mike (Sue), Marty (Lynn), and Matt (Jan) as well as seven grandchildren; Patrick, Gillian, Erin, Jenna, Megan, Samantha, and Jackson.
He was a graduate of Covington Latin High School and Villa Madonna College. He went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in philosophy at the University of Toronto and earned an MBA at Xavier University in Cincinnati. Following school, he served in the Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant, stationed at Fort Knox, KY. While in the service, he and Loraine were married.
Upon his return to Covington, Tom ran for public office and was elected as City Commissioner and also served as Vice Mayor. During this period, he also began a long career in the real estate industry as the Executive Vice President of Cincinnati Board of Realtors.
In 1967, Tom relocated his family to Arlington Heights, after accepting a position with the Chicago-based National Institute of Real Estate Brokers (NIREB). From 1970 through 1976, he served as Executive Vice President of The Gallery of Homes. He later went on to establish his own consulting firm, TWD & Associates, which specialized in services to the real estate profession as well as taking co-ownership of the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council (REBAC). His years of service to the real estate industry included work in over six countries as an advisor, keynote speaker, author (six published books), and lecturer.
Tom’s extensive academic credentials lead to teaching positions at both Northern Illinois University and Lewis University in Romeoville, IL, where he helped to establish an MBA program. He also served on Arlington Heights Library Board of Trustees.
After retiring, Tom became involved with Roosevelt University’s Institute for Continued Learning (ICL). He acted as President of the Advisory Board in addition to developing and moderating numerous courses.
Tom was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Wayside Parish in Arlington Heights where he served on the Finance Committee, was a regular lector and morning prayer service leader.
He was an avid baseball fan, who as a dedicated Cincinnati Reds supporter, believed to the day he died that Pete Rose should be inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame.
Tom will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family, a leader in the field of real estate, a committed teacher, a lifelong reader and learner, and a trusted friend.
A visitation is scheduled from 4-8pm on Monday, March 16 at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E Northwest Hwy. in Arlington Heights. A funeral Mass will be held at 11AM Tuesday, March 17, at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 440 S. Mitchell St. in Arlington Heights. Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s name to Covington Latin High School and Our Lady of the Wayside Grade School.
