Dear Debra, Cindy, Monica, Joey, Jessie, Luca, and Family,

As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator High School community.  Our hearts go out to you as you move forward on your journey of grief.  We pray for you as you share the stories, laugh and cry, and continue to find ways to celebrate your mother, your grandmother, and the love you shared.

"Vivacious Val" certainly made the most of all the "times" in her life, especially the times to "teach…dance…travel."  As Deacon Pete noted, I am sure she was greeted with the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant."

As I read the obituary for this "beloved wife…loving mother…dear sister…cherished grandmother…loving great-grandmother," I was reminded of the following reading adapted from the Book of Sirach. 

“Let us praise an illustrious woman,
faithful to her family and friends, strong in her love.
At peace in her heart and her world,
she has left us her good name, and we recount her life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous woman her good works will never be forgotten.
Among her family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of her….
Her name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing her praises.
We proclaim her wisdom and love of life all our days.”

May God’s promise that life is changed, not ended, comfort you!
May the knowledge your mother, your grandmother, your great-grandmother lives on in your goodness give you peace and hope.

We are so sorry to hear about Valarie. We were neighbors for many years. I still remember Valarie teaching my daughter about the treasure of Atacha (sp). She taught my daughter Spanish and was at least partially responsible for my daughter's enthusiasm about all things Spanish along with my daughter's travel abroad trip to Spain.
May she rest in peace.

While we lived behind Val and Marve for about 10 years, we always loved their visits and conversations. Val always loved watching Phil play with the kids in the yard and always put up with my dad’s personality and humor. She was a strong, loving and wonderful person to our family- and we will always treasure them. Thanking of Debra and the family and praying for strength for them all.

Dear Valarie, 
It was always a pleasure to see you at the nchwc or mass with Debra.  You were always so vibrant and positive.   I will miss our fun but short conversations and your upbeat attitude on life.   RIP  and enjoy being with Marv and the Father.   God bless.

It is with much love that I send Aunt Valerie on to be with her big brother, my father Roy.   I have countless memories of laughter and fun with my dad teasing her until he got that big laugh while I was chased around her Chicagoland home by her crazy kids, David, Deana and Debra (my cousins and extended family).     She loved real conversations and no topic was off limits if it provided a pathway to learning or deeper understanding.   She had a fantastic mind and I know that for a fact because she told me on numerous occasions.    She lived with faith, passion,  love and an authenticity that I admired and have attempted to emulate.    She was a great matriarch and powerful woman before being a powerful woman was cool.    I can see much of her in Debra who has been a rock for her and the family through good times and bad.

I raise this Beefeater martini to her, my dad, and their parents.   Thank you for the gift of your time here on earth, and if it pleases God may we all be together in the next life to perfect the love and joy we have in our hearts.

While I will certainly remember my grandmother for her wit, charisma, and passion for teaching, the most extraordinary thing about her was her heart. Our family has suffered immeasurable grief since 2019, and, while most would succumb to such pain with feelings of anger and hopelessness, my dear grandmother never once faltered in her kindness and faith. She took every opportunity to encourage me and single-handedly inspired an unwavering confidence in myself, when sometimes that’s all I had. It wasn’t her responsibility to make me feel perfect---even greater, she made me feel empowered. How many people on this planet are this lucky to ever have had somebody believe in you like that? She never stopped reminding me that she was my #1 fan, and I will carry that with me forever. If I could even have a tenth of the positive impact on someone else in the way she did for me, then it will have been a good life. How fortunate I was to know you, Grandma---you really made the world a better place, and it will never see another like you. While I will selfishly miss you, I just know that Grandpa, my father and Aunt Deana are ecstatic to welcome you home.

   I am very proud to say that you lived a long happy life with purpose, by spreading your wisdom and intelligence, by putting all your love and care into raising your children and grandchildren, and by always bringing the family together to create fun and everlasting memories. You and grandpa made a wonderful family together and I will always be lucky to have you as my grandma. I will cherish those days and just know part of who I am today is because of the impact you had on my life since day one!

Grandma I am sad to see you gone. You have taught me how to be compassionate and how to put others before yourself.  I will think about you everyday.  I know you are no longer suffering but your absence has created a hole in my heart. In time I will heal and know you will be joing my mom in guiding me.  Your smile and legacy will be cherished forever.

Haven’t been able to post (more or less function). But my beautiful mom, saint and friend and loved one to all passed Tuesday morning. Val was the most witty and compassionate person I’ve known. She always made everyone welcome and did it with ease. A teacher at heart, a grandmother with patience, and the best friend I have ever had. 
She was so strong and versatile and I know I learned how to be the best I could be from her. We had so much in common, our love for music, travel, history, Broadway shows, our Catholic faith. My mom wrote me weekly letters in college that I have kept. And keep dear to my heart. I could go on forever but I will end here. Love you Mom 
I will be fine. See you ❤️❤️❤️
