

Veronica (Roland) McQueeney, of Arlington Heights, IL (16 years) and previously of Grayslake, IL (32 years) affectionately known as "Von", passed away peacefully on January 4th, 2023 at the age of 97, three weeks shy of her 98th birthday.
Von was born on January 31, 1925 in Hannibal, Missouri to the late Ben and Helen (O'Connor) Roland, and was the beloved younger sister to the late Anna Marie (Roland) Wright, known as "Sis". After moving to Burlington, Vermont in 1938, Von graduated from Cathedral High School and went on to study for a B.S. Degree in Chemistry at Trinity College. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Von graduated from Trinity as Valedictorian/Summa Cum Laude, with a record GPA that wouldn't be broken for 30 years. Von married John (Jack) McQueeney, the 'love of her life', on September 9, 1946. They shared a loving marriage and 7 rambunctious children: Patricia, Joanne, Helen, George , Kathleen , Maureen , and Dennis . Jack preceded Von in death on July 13, 1987 after 40 loving years of marriage.
In addition to being a busy wife and mother, Von collected many accolades throughout her life. "Mrs. McQueeney" worked as a science teacher for 13 years at Big Hollow Middle School in Ingleside, IL, where she won the Excellence in Teaching Award for Science. Von served in her parish Women's Club in both Grayslake and Arlington Heights, and in the year 2000 was awarded Woman of the Year at St. Gilbert's Parish in Grayslake. Von was an enthusiastic member of the Knitting Ministry for many years, and an avid needlepointer. One of the legacies she leaves behind is a bountiful collection of handmade Christmas ornaments she gifted annually to her children and their families over the past four decades.
After moving from Grayslake to Arlington Hts. in 2006, Von wasted no time becoming a leader within the Luther Village retirement community. She served on their Board of Trustees for 6 years, as well as numerous committees, and she forged a multitude of wonderful, warm friendships that carried her into her final days. You could find Von drinking Baileys Irish Cream with her "Chat Group", enjoying daily luncheons with her "Grandma Posse", and offering her favorite Chardonnay to all of her visitors. Von loved to spend time with her family and friends at Luther Village, St. James, and beyond. She was a pillar of kindness, strength, leadership, dignity, perseverance and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
In death, Von is reunited with her husband, Jack, her parents Ben and Helen Roland, her sister, Anna Marie Wright, her daughters Patricia Forrester and Joanne Obringer, and three sons-in-law; Chester Forrester, Thomas Eitt, and Walter Flick.,
"Mom" is survived by children Helen Eitt , George (Helen) McQueeney, Kathleen Flick, Maureen (Wayne) Moffatte, and Dennis (Toni) McQueeney, and by her loving l son-in-law, Daniel Obringer.
Known as "Grammy V" by her grandchildren, she will be dearly missed by Carol Janet, and Chad Forrester, Theresa Eitt, Ian (Michelle) Moffatte, Colleen (Keith) Kaminski, Joseph (Jennifer) Obringer, Anne Obringer, Emily (Michael) Keller, Paul McQueeney, and Kevin and Ryan McQueeney.
Few things brought "GGV" more joy than holding her great grandbabies: Trinity Forrester, Lily Moffatte, Wally and Xander Kaminski, Jack and Leo Keller, and Molly and Brody Obringer.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Prayers at 9:45 am, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the funeral home, proceeding to St. James Catholic Church for a 10:30 am Funeral Mass. Interment will be at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
