William B. Hecker was born on July 13, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Mary (nee Evans) Hecker. He died Friday, May 3, 2019 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Mr. Hecker was a very skilled, self-employed, carpenter who completed many commercial build outs in the Chicago area as a General Contractor for his company, Sunnyside Construction Ltd. He was well-known for providing high end, budget-minded work.
Bill proudly served in the Signal Corp of the United States Army while serving in Vietnam in 1968 during the Vietnam War. He later served as a reservist being the Senior Faculty Development Specialist for the Methods of Learning course rising to the rank of Sgt. First Class. During Basic Training, Bill was well known for openly professing his faith in Jesus Christ garnering him the nickname of “preacher” by his Drill Sergeant.
His interests and hobbies included helping others through providing work for anyone willing to listen and swing a hammer. He frequently donated to Veterans organizations and Christian causes.
Bill is survived by his spouse Deborah Hecker (nee Landstrom); his children W. Brad (Jennifer) Hecker, Susan (Scott) Eriksen and Steven (Jessica) Hecker; and his grandchildren Stephen, Ryan, Katie, Jackson, Tyler and William.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation Monday, May 6, 2019 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (four blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Private Service and Interment will take place at Acacia Park Cemetery in Norridge.
