William "Bill" Joseph Lohmeier

Born on October 4, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, Bill was the beloved eldest child of William and Barbara (née Lynch) Lohmeier. He was soon joined by five younger siblings, and shared many wonderful childhood memories with his siblings and cousins.

Bill built his life around service to others, guided by both a brilliant mind and a generous heart. Bill graduated from the University of Iowa and went on to acquire a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Throughout his legal career, Bill devoted significant time to pro bono work, providing legal representation and guidance to those most in need. In his later years, Bill continued to live by his spirit of generosity. He was often the first to start a Facebook fundraiser or to make sure a friend, family member, or even a casual acquaintance received a happy birthday, congratulatory message, or Christmas card.

Bill was cherished by his nieces and nephews. They will remember him for indulging them in many of their favorite games; the infamous ‘crusher’; his steel-trap memory, which made him the family’s human encyclopedia for all things, but especially the date and score of any Iowa Hawkeyes or Chicago White Sox game; and, of course, his ability to deliver a perfectly timed curse word.


Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Barbara Lohmeier, as well as his grandparents and many cherished aunts and uncles. He is survived by his siblings, Mary (Todd) Stotz, Patricia (Chester) Kumm, John Lohmeier, Elizabeth Lohmeier, and Michael (Jackie) Lohmeier; his nieces and nephews, Jack (Katie), Moira (Jerome Tutaj), and Will Stotz; Kevin (Delaney Yarwood), Patrick, and Thomas Kumm; Bridget Burke, Madeline, and Maeve Lohmeier; and Sarah, Sophia, William, and Emily Lohmeier; his uncle Edwin Lohmeier; numerous cousins; and several lifelong friends.

Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Monday, September 7 at Glueckert Funeral Home (1520 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL). On Tuesday, September 8, visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church (440 South Mitchell Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL), followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that was close to Bill’s heart.
