Rev William J. Lyons

Devoted son of the late Fred and Florence (nee O’Connell) Lyons

Dear cousin of Patricia (James) Murray and Sr. Joan O’Connell SSND

Ordained into the priesthood on May 1, 1956. Rev. Lyons first assignment was at St. John de la Salle Church and he served there from 1956 – 1961. His next assignment was at St. Anne Church (Garfield Blvd) from 1961 – 1966. He then was assigned to St. Joachim Church and served there from 1966 until he was named pastor in 1974 and served as Pastor from 1974 – 1983. In 1983 Rev. Lyons was named Pastor of St. Terrence Church in Alsip where he served until his retirement in 2001. Also in 2001 Rev. Lyons was named Pastor Emeritus of St. Terrence Church. In addition to his parish work, Rev. Lyons taught religion at Mendel Catholic High School from 1956 – 1971 and at Maria High School from 1971 – 1986. Visitation Tuesday 3 – 9 PM with wake service at 7:00 P.M. and Wednesday 9:30 AM until time of funeral mass 10:00 AM at St Terrence Church 4300 W. 119th Place (119th & Kostner) Alsip. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to St. Terrance Church appreciated.
