Abu A. Rahman

Abu A. Rahman, 83, passed away on March 9, 2026, at 2:05 a.m. Born June 26, 1942, Abu was a hard-working, resilient, wise, generous, brave, loyal, and humorous man whose steady presence and thoughtful spirit touched many lives.

Salaat ul Janazah will be held Wednesday March 11th, 2026. After Dhuhr Salah (2:00pm) at East Plano Islamic Center, 4700 14th St, Plano, Tx 75074

He will be laid to rest at Enon-Ashmore Cemetery 23262 E County Road 880 N Ashmore, Coles County, Illinois 61912.

Born in Lucknow, India, Abu grew up in Karachi, Pakistan. In 1963, he immigrated to the United States to pursue a college education. Abu met Barbara at Eastern Illinois University, and they married in 1967. He graduated from college in 1970.

Abu worked as a medical technologist until he lost his eyesight. Undeterred, he pursued a new path and attended Parker College of Chiropractic, where he found his true passion, graduating in January of 1989. He and Barbara opened Healing Touch Chiropractic. After Barbara’s passing and the closing of the clinic, Abu continued to see patients in his free time, remaining devoted to helping others with the same determination and care that defined his life.

Abu loved tinkering and inventing—creating new chiropractic devices as well as practical items for the home, most recently a set of windchimes. He also enjoyed relaxing while listening to music, especially Indian music, and spent many hours listening to books and a wide range of news articles.

Abu is survived by daughter, Cheryl Downs and husband, Matt; sons, David Rahman and wife, Callie, Edward Rahman and wife, Crystal; daughter, Mariam Rahman; grandchildren, Georgia Downs, Gillian Downs, Lindsey McClellan, Zachary Rahman, and Cole Rahman; great grandchild, Phoenix Neimi; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Abu is preceded in death by his life long partner, Barbara Rahman; parents, Syed Zarif Ahmad Malick and Husne Ara Begum; sisters Shamim Bano, Suraiya Bano, and Akhtar Bano; and grandsons, Samuel Downs and Trevor Rahman; granddaughter, Alexandra Rahman
