Barbara Williams Prabhu, age 82, passed away May 6, 2022 in Fort Worth, Texas. An accomplished author, loving wife, and mother, Mrs. Prabhu resided in Arlington for over 25 years with her husband Dr. Vasant Prabhu. Barbara and Vasant were married for over 55 years.
Barbara Frances Williams was born in New York, raised in Rhode Island by single mother Evelyn Monast, served in the U.S. Air Force, and married Dr. Vasant Prabhu whom she met while he was attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They began their married life in Holmdel, New Jersey, where they raised their son, Jay.
Barbara and Vasant travelled extensively throughout the world, visiting almost all the continents and learning about all cultures and tribes.
Barbara was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed Egyptology and biographies of women. She was active in and committed to the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women. She was also an active member of the North Texas Chapter of American Research Center in Egypt.
Mrs. Prabhu earned a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University, an Associate’s Degree from Brookdale Community College, wrote or edited more than 10 books, and wrote numerous newspaper articles for New Jersey periodicals. In particular, she edited and compiled an edition of “The Spotlight on New Jersey Government,” reflecting years of her work in New Jersey politics.
Barbara leaves behind her husband Vasant, who is a Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering at University of Texas - Arlington. Her son Jay resides in Arlington, Virginia and is a federal prosecutor at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
