Lillie Faye Lewis Ellis, 91 died December 27, 2015 in Arlington, Texas. She was born on July 5, 1924 in Henderson County, Texas and came to Dallas in 1941. She worked for a defense contractor near Dallas building airplanes during the war, wearing dungarees and plaid shirts. Later she was an operator for the telephone company in Dallas, wearing a headset and connecting calls. She told us the building was not air conditioned and large chunks of ice were placed in buckets with fans behind them to keep operators and equipment cool in the heat of the day. In later years she worked for a computer business, helping customers by phone. She had a gift as a seamstress and could make clothing, upholster furnature, or whatever needed to be done. She was an industrious and creative homemaker.
Faye married Harold Eugene Ellis in 1947 and was the mother of three children.
Faye loved gardening, and grooming her rosebushes. As she grew older, she wanted everything pink, from color on the walls to personal attire to furnishings in her home. She loved old westerns, anything with John Wayne. Her favorite dish to both prepare and consume was chicken and dumplings.
Faye was the daughter of Mamie Stroud and James Franklin Lewis. Mamie Stroud came to Texas as a child in a covered wagon. Faye was one of four children in this family.
Faye is survived by Roger Ellis, Bruce Ellis and Carol and Trey Cousins; grandchildren: Kelly and Holly Huffman, Randall Cousins, Whitney Ellis and James Ellis; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Sophia Huffman.
She is predeceased by her husband Harold Ellis and grandson Travis Cousins.
