Georgia Mayfield Savage Davis, at the age of 93, passed away peacefully in Arlington, Texas on January 15, 2019. She was born on September 29, 1925, in Altus, Oklahoma, the daughter of George B. Savage and Lil’ Elma Martin Savage. Georgia married William E. Davis in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Georgia spent her childhood in Brownwood, Texas, where she later met her husband, Bill, and attended Howard Payne University. She taught in her grandmother’s beauty school while working toward her degree. In just three years, she graduated with a major in Business and a minor in Home Economics. After college, she was a secretary for Arrow Coach Lines, a teller and customer service representative at Chase Bank, and eventually retired from a secretarial position at First Baptist of Euless.
Georgia was proud to be a student of Mavis Douglas, who helped her develop her gift for singing. She also wrote beautiful poetry that touched the hearts of many. Most of all, she adored her family and saw only the good in everyone.
Georgia is survived by her children Loretta McElroy, Debbie Forsberg, Becky Curtis, and Bill Davis; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, January 25 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home. Funeral service will be led by Pastor George Newcomb on Saturday at 10:00 AM, also at the funeral home. Interment will be Saturday at 3:00 PM at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas.
