James is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Hunter; sons, Jeff Hunter and his wife Christian, Scott Hunter and his wife Gina, Mark Hunter and his wife Caroline; daughter, Sara Hunter; grandchildren, Reese, Brynn, Grace, and Emily.
