Janice Madeline Harris Buchanan

Janice Madeline Harris Buchanan was born on September 18, 1949 to Zebedee and Katie Harris in Orlando, Florida. She received her early education at Holden Street Elementary School and graduated from Jones High School in 1967. She continued her education and graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration in May 2005.

Janice married the late Michael Buchanan on May 20, 1972 in New York. In this union they had two children, Kenyetta Renee and Michael Brandon. She worked for American Airlines in New York and subsequently transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma and then Arlington, Texas for 15 years. She also worked for Verizon for 18 years until her retirement in 2016.

Janice enjoyed traveling, taking pictures, spending time with her friends and family, collecting black art, going to plays, and playing with her two dogs Sam and Bella. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at North Westmoreland Church of Christ. She was an active member of Mountain View Church of Christ for many years.

She leaves to mourn two children Kenyetta and Brandon (Angela), two grandchildren Olivia and Isaiah, sisters Gwendolyn Phillips (Joe) of Bowie, Maryland, Marva Harris Thomas of Baltimore, Maryland, and Sharon Harris Pierre of Orlando, Florida, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 15 from 6-8 p.m. and again on Friday, February 16 from 1-2 p.m. at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, also at the funeral home.
