On Sunday, January 1, 2023 Kristi Oakley Calzada, faithful sister, loving mother of three, and Nana, went to rest peacefully, leaving her earthly body to be with the Lord at the age of 57.
Born in Muenster, Texas on May 5, 1965 to Teddy and Bonnie Sue Oakley, Kristi was the third of five girls. As a child, Kristi developed a passion for reading that carried her throughout life, later contributing to her academic success. Kristi participated in theater, also playing the saxophone during high school. As a young adult, Kristi took her first international trip to Germany with her mother, sparking a lifelong interest in travel. She graduated from Cook County College in Gainesville, TX where she received her Bachelor's in Nursing. Soon after graduating, Kristi welcomed her first born daughter Heather Molina, and four years later her second daughter Kyla Steele. She later welcomed her youngest son, Preston Calzada, all currently of Tarrant County.
Kristi dabbled in multiple nursing fields such as home health care for special needs seniors and pediatrics, all while maintaining home life as a single mother. It was her mission to serve special needs and underprivileged communities specializing in pediatric health care. Kristi was a part of the proud team of nurses and case managers that opened Children's Medical Center in Dallas, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Nita Jones and Melanie Ellis. Kristi is survived by grandchildren Baily Calzada, Kennedy Vassar, Clever Vassar, Kaleb Vassar, Jax Molina, Kenzie Vassar and Oakley Molina and by sisters Denise Geiser,Angela Pool, and Teddi Oakley; brother Tad Oakley.
Throughout life she had an intimate relationship with the Lord, through daily prayer and devotion. She was known amongst many as a true prayer warrior. There was comfort in her faith that Jesus, her Lord and Savior would one day make her whole. She has achieved peace at last. May she forever rest in peace.
A funeral service for Kristi will be held Monday, January 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Dallas First Church, 5606 W. Illinois Ave, Dallas, Texas 75211. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery, 1059 Toby, Gainesville, Texas 76240.
