Louis "Lou" Taylor Shores

Lou grew up in South Texas (Pasadena) and later moved to Farmington, Arkansas. After graduating from Farmington High School, he returned to Texas, worked for Texas Bronze in Kennedale and served in the Texas National Guard. He served in Fort Knox, KY and Fort Polk, LA, where he earned an expert badge, a pistol .45-caliber sharp shooter badge, tank gunnery, awarded a certificate of achievements, and rifle marksman.

Lou was a natural born artist as illustrated by his drawing of a perfect circle on his mother’s wall when he was two years old. He continued his education to advance his talents, received his Associates of Art Degree, and attended numerous drawing and oil painting classes throughout the years.

On August 17, 1973, he married Janet Jackson and they moved to Arlington, Texas. Lou then worked for Bell Helicopter Textron and retired in 2002, after 35 years of service, while Janet taught math in Arlington.

Lou spent his time in retirement volunteering at the Hearts and Hands Food Bank and North Davis Church of Christ and Rapha International. He also pursued his hobbies of various construction projects in the back yard, attending cooking classes, working on his rent houses, bicycle marathons, art classes, traveling on cruises, playing golf, fishing in the gulf, and having weekly trips to Johnny High Country Musicals. Lou also had a collection of cookbooks and many old classic movies on DVDs.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, brother Del (Butch) Shores, niece Dana Lynn Fraley, and nephew Alan Fraley.

Lou is survived by his wife of 47 years Janet (Jackson) Shores, sister Ellen Fraley and husband Jack of Ft. Smith, AR; sister-in-law Linda Shores; niece Angie Manuel; nephew Del Ray Shores and wife Katrina all from Anacoco, LA; and many loving extended family members.

Visitation Friday, December 18 from 6:00-8:00pm at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home. Funeral 2pm on Saturday, also at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 29 at 2:00pm.
